Week Three-Pain free!

MILESTONES THIS WEEK:

  • Off pain medication
  • Eating pureed food and lean ground meats
  • Lost another 2 pounds so at 217! (from 239 three weeks ago)

The beginning of my third week was very tough. Let me tell you just how tough. The SMELL of food turned me off. In fact, it turned me off so much, my husband was able to cover for me and tell a waitress last week I was pregnant, that is how bad it was. Certain smells and foods-like mayo, for example, really turn me off right now. And garlic. OH MY GOD… I can’t stand it.

(I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE ITALICS WONT GO OFF IN THIS PART OF THE POST> ARRRGHH!)

I have been trying to introduce new foods, and struggled Wed, Thurs and Fri for any sort of relief. I heard from my roomie Amy over the weekend (who bunked with me in TJ) and she has lost 20 pounds and says she can eat ANYTHING. Even drink OJ with scrambled eggs. So there I am Saturday morning, trying to swallow scrambled eggs when my hubs walks in and says “You are so competitive. The only reason you are eating eggs is because Amy can, right?”
I sheepishly put down my fork, and realize it’s true. Besides, my stomach is turning and the nausea returns immediately, and for the rest of the day,  I am barely able to eat anything (like I am eating a whole hell of a lot in a normal day to begin with).
Saturday night I went to a friends house and was cringing all the way over at the thought of a social gathering. The food, the wine, me hiding in a corner…but then I discovered the Shrimp Ring.

I took one bite of shrimp. Then two. Before I knew it, I had consumed ten of these little suckers.
“You better slow down and pace yourself” says my husband.
“Screw you, I’m starving” says the look I shoot him, and my tummy is in a happy place.
So the next day I stop taking tylenol, go stock up on shrimp and cottage cheese, and lo and behold, a breakthrough. My only downfall was that I did have some wine, and Sunday I celebrated my 36th birthday, so did I slip up? A little. But I got right back on track. And  I lost weight, too 🙂

For those that are interested, here is a sample of what I am eating in week three:

Breakfast
  • 1/2 C blue menu PC cottage cheese w 1/4 C applesauce sugar free

Lunch:

  • 3 egg whites w soup of some kind-chicken broth, veg broth, etc

Midway Snack:

  • 1 cup of protein drink mixed with half water, half milk-23 G protein per serving

Dinner:

  • Pureed or ground lean meat ie: ground chicken (2 oz) with mashed veg like peas, or 1/2 C canned beans, or some sort of legume

Evening Snack:

  • 10 shrimp

My total calories are about 550-600 per day right now, and this has taken me a few days to work up to. Once I am cleared to start working out and exercising again, I plan on increasing my intake…but it has been tough as the first few weeks I battled with a lot of throat pain and swallowing issues not to mention feeling like my food was going to come back up when I ate it.
